Illinois State basketball extends offers to local players

NORMAL, Ill. — 鈥淩ecruiting our state and region will be very important to our staff and our program here at Illinois State University,鈥 new ISU Coach, Ryan Pedon said in his press conference on March 7.

This spring the Redbirds picked up Bloomington graduate, Colton Sandage, who is transferring from Western Illinois to play his final year at ISU.

Last month, Coach Pedan put out three more local offers to Class of 2024 Normal Community players including Braylon Roman (guard), Noah Cleveland (forward) and Jaheem Webber (center).

The latest local player to receive an offer from Illinois State was Cole Certa, a guard from Central Catholic. Cole was last season’s IHSA Three-Point Showdown Champion.

Certa also has offers from Bradley, Toledo, Drake, Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Loyola. Webber has also been recruited by Bradley along with Southern Illinois University,

The last player from the Intercity to sign on with ISU out of high school and play for the Redbirds was Brandon Holtz from Bloomington in 2005, who also happens to be Sandage’s brother.

It is exciting to see Pedon following through with his plan of incorporating local talent to his roster. Time will tell where these intercity athletes land.
