Get to know new Dothan boys head basketball coach Jeremy Bynum
DOTHAN, Ala. — Alabama native, Jeremy Bynum, is the new head basketball coach for the Dothan High Wolves. Born and raised in Oxford, Alabama, Bynum has always been a basketball guy. His high school career was spent at Oxford High School before playing four years at Jacksonville State on a full scholarship. After college he spent several years playing in the European League. When Bynum moved back to the United States he coached at his high school alma mater for four years. Last season he was the head coach at Jemison High School in Huntsville. Bynum led the team to 19 wins and an appearance in the Elite 8. The team that defeated Jemison went on to win the state championship.
Bynum is very excited about coaching the Wolves. He said, “I think Dothan provides a great opportunity to have an impact and make a change.”聽In reference to his coaching technique Bynum said, “My style of coaching will be different than what people are used to seeing. We are going to play fast and shoot a lot of threes. We will put in a lot of time skill wise and strength building.”
Seniors on the team include Raymon Blackmon, Thomas Dowd, Braxton Hornsby, AJ Porter, Michael Coleman, and Jeccari Patterson. Bryson Berry, Jalen Corbitt, Tamarion Peterson, Mehkai Menefee, Keith Stampley, Elon Ersery, Jhustice聽Beachem, and Jayden Taylor are underclassmen that make up the remainder of the team.
“Dowd, Blackmon, and Berry have all done an exceptional job being leaders in the program. Each of them brings a different aspect of leadership and having that diversity will聽be great for our program,” Bynum said.
I asked Coach Bynum his expectations for the upcoming season and he responded, “My goal is to establish an everyday mentality throughout the program. We will come in every day giving our max effort and being great teammates. As a coach I expect my players to get 1% better each day and I hold myself to this same standard. We believe that culture wins and we will continuously strive to have the best culture defined by our four values, Humility, Discipline, Ownership, and Relentlessness. We expect to be competitive in all aspects of the game and ensure that the city of Dothan will be proud of the effort and teamwork we display on a nightly basis.” Good luck to the Dothan Wolves 2022-23 Boys Basketball Team!
