Jim Everett, Tommy McDonald headline Albuquerque’s NFL best

5. Billy Jenkins, S, Albuquerque

Though a lesser known member of the ¸é²¹³¾²õ’ lone Super Bowl championship in St. Louis, Jenkins’ journey from New Mexico to the Super Bowl is one that many can look up to. As a senior for Albuquerque High School, Jenkins was named to the all-city, all-district and all-state teams. After not receiving much college interest, Jenkins walked on at Howard University. Jenkins became an all-conference selection and helped lead the team to the all-Black college national football championship in 1996. After going undrafted in the 1997 NFL Draft, Jenkins landed with the Rams and became the team’s starting safety in his second season. Jenkins helped the Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV before being traded to the Denver Broncos in the 1999 offseason. In total, Jenkins played for three seasons for the Rams, two for the Broncos and one each for the Bills and Green Bay Packers. He saw snaps in 91 career games with 48 starts recording 317 tackles, 19 pass deflections, eight interceptions, four sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown over his seven NFL seasons.
