2. Jim Everett, QB, Eldorado
The top quarterback from the state, Everett had to wait to show off his abilities. Only a starting quarterback his senior year for the Eldorado Golden Eagles, Everett led the team to a 13-0 record and a New Mexico state championship. This helped Everett earn a scholarship to Purdue University. With the Boilermakers, Everett threw for 7,411 yards, 43 touchdowns and 33 interceptions during his time with the team and finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1985. Everett entered the 1986 NFL Draft with a lot of hype and was taken No. 3 overall by the Houston Oilers, but was traded to the Los Angeles Rams before ever taking a snap in Texas. The quarterback played 12 seasons for the Rams, Saints and the San Diego Chargers, throwing for 34,837 yards, 203 touchdowns and 175 interceptions, twice leading the league in touchdown passes while being named to a Pro Bowl in 1990.
