CHELSEA, Ala. — Being a Chelsea High School Varsity football player, for me, has been an amazing and rewarding experience. Not only do I get to play a sport that I have loved playing since I was in 1st grade, but I have been able to build friendships and bonds with my teammates who I consider to be like brothers. I have no doubt these friendships will last a lifetime.

I鈥檓 very excited for my sophomore year as the team and I have been training hard to prepare for our first season competing in 7A classification. In addition, we are also under new leadership of head coach, Todd Cassity, and several new assistant coaches. Coach Cassity has brought a whole new level of excitement and focus to the program that is quickly spreading throughout the community. He and the other coaches are working to prepare the team to be physically, mentally and morally tough.

Over the summer we have attended daily workouts to improve our strength, speed, agility and skills. Workouts begin at 7:30am with weight lifting and speed training, then we move outside to focus on our specific positions. As quarterback, my job is to lead the offense, but most importantly, my job is to be a leader to the team.

My coaches have helped me develop my leadership skills by providing our team with weekly leadership and character building lessons. They also have brought in special guest speakers which I have really enjoyed. This summer we have competed in 7 on 7s against other high school teams to prepare for our upcoming season.

As the start of the season approaches, the excitement is building for myself and teammates because for us Game Day and Friday Night Lights is this best feeling in the world! I鈥檓 really looking forward to the game against one of our biggest rivals, Oak Mountain High School.

From the pep rally with the band, cheerleaders and student body, to the pregame meal, and to the bus ride to the game, all of this makes being a Chelsea Hornet football player so special. The rush we get from putting on our Chelsea Football uniform as we suit up for battle and running through the tunnel onto the field with the band playing and our families, friends and community cheering us on is an incredible experience that is hard to put into words. I have never been more excited to play football than I am now. Go Hornets!
