Dothan HS girls volleyball team looking forward to a healthy season
DOTHAN, Ala. — The 2021 Volleyball Season was extremely unpredictable for the Dothan High Wolves. Coach Brianne Kent said, 鈥淟ast year was difficult because Covid cases came at random times and threw a kink in things for us.鈥� Kent said that they had very few games where all of the starters were healthy enough to play. She said a big area game in particular was really tricky as five of the six starters had Covid. Kent and the team are counting on their 2022 season being better and little more predictable.
While five team members graduated, Kent is excited about having five seniors back for the fall. 鈥淲e also have four juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman from the 9th grade academy on varsity.鈥� Kent is starting her fourth year as the Head Volleyball Coach and 10th year as a teacher in Dothan City Schools.
The Lady Wolves had a great experience in July at the Troy Volleyball Camp. Kent said, 鈥淭roy offers a very individualized set-up at camp which is exactly what we needed.鈥� Sixteen teams attended the camp and each was assigned their own Troy Volleyball Team player that served as their coach for the week. 鈥淥ur girls had a great time and learned a lot. We had a chance to see the chemistry develop among our team members. They excelled at coming together as a unit at camp,鈥� Kent stated.
Dothan is in 7A, area 3 which also includes Enterprise, Jeff Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Prattville. All five teams will compete in the area tournament.- The top two teams will move on to super regionals in Montgomery in October. The top eight teams will advance to the state tournament. I asked Kent her projection for the season. She said, 鈥淚 feel much better this year with the healthiness of our girls and chemistry of our team. We have a good shot at making regionals this year.鈥� Best of luck to the Dothan High Volleyball Team!
