Percy Harvin, Plaxico Burress among Virginia Beach NFL stars
1. Herbert Scott, G, Kellam
The top player on the list also played the longest ago, with his NFL career spanning from 1975-84. Scott excelled at Kellam playing tight end. He was recruited by nearby historically black university Virginia Union University and its Division II program. There, the 6-foot-2, 250–pound Scott was moved to guard and helped the Panthers to a combined 17-3 record his junior and senior seasons, being named All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association first team and earning national Division II All-America honors. Given his small school play, Scott wasn鈥檛 selected until the 13th round, No. 330 overall, by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1975 NFL Draft. Despite his late selection, Scott played immediately for America鈥檚 Team, playing in 14 games with four starts as a rookie. Over the course of his 10-year career, Scott was named to the Pro Bowl three times and first-team All-Pro twice, in back-to-back seasons in 1980 and 1981. He finished his career playing in 140 games with 114 starts.
