Get to know St. Joseph HS pole vaulter Samantha Ebbert
ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — Samantha Ebbert is a pole vaulter for the track team at St Joseph High School. She will be a Senior this Fall. Samantha is my neighbor, and her parents came to me one day saying 鈥淪am鈥� wanted to try pole vault. So, she started working once or twice a week during that first Summer. In Spring, we were interrupted by Covid. She kept working as much as allowed through the next Fall jumping on Sunday evenings. Our school record was 10鈥�9鈥� at the time. At Rotary meet her sophomore year, she broke that record with a 10鈥�10鈥� jump!聽 She made it to the State meet and just missed the podium finishing 9th.
Sam continued to train during the off seasons. Sam is also a level 10 gymnast and trains very hard for that as well, 3-5 times a week.
This past season, Sam had set her sights on a goal of 12鈥�. At the Lakeshore meet she jumped 11鈥� 6鈥� to break her school record once again! At the state meet she cleared 11鈥�3鈥� to finish 5th.
Samantha is also a member of the 4×100 meter relay and a 100/300 hurdler. She is very athletic, but also, she works very hard to improve. We look forward to having her on the track team this upcoming season and watching her hard work and dedication pay off!
