Colts Neck receives Shore Conference B North Division Sportsmanship Award
COLTS NECK, N.J. — Earlier this year, Colts Neck High School won the Sportsmanship Award for the Shore Conference B North Division. Colts Neck High School, along with dozens of other schools, is聽 part of the Shore Conference, which includes athletics specifically in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Each division in the Shore Conference awards its own sportsmanship award to one lucky high school each school year, based on which school reflected the proper athletic attitude throughout the entire season. The main criteria for receiving this award is the number of ejections that a school gets.聽 A school must have zero ejections to qualify for the award – which Colts Neck, fortunately, did!
Colts Neck offers a wide variety of sports to its students, and no matter what sport a student decides to participate in, the coaches at CNHS ensure that all teams bond as a unit and create an environment that is both friendly and motivational. When talking to Mr. Zwirz, the director of athletics at Colts Neck High School, I learned that at the beginning of each season, the captains of every sports team must sign the Cougar Pledge, which advocates for anti-bullying and a positive attitude in every game. The captains then pass on the pledge to their teams, ensuring that every Cougar understands their responsibilities both on and off the field. Although I am not an athlete at Colts Neck High School, I consistently see the united attitude of the school shine through during practices, games, and countless other team events.
Luckily, I鈥檓 not the only one who sees the pride that Colts Neck athletes take in sportsmanship. Victoria Henderson, a Colts Neck Varsity Field Hockey and Lacrosse player, explains that since the teams spend so much time together on the field, they are able to bond and grow together as a unit. Henderson has seen an environment where all athletes are hardworking, respectful, and persistent, and she believes that this award reflects that. Overall, the students at Colts Neck High School truly want the best for one another, and no matter how well or how poorly they do in a game, the most valuable thing for them is pushing themselves and their teammates to do the best they possibly can.
