Menomonee Falls boys tennis finish with best season in program history
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Looking back on our run to state, the Menomonee Falls boys tennis team came into the season with a strong senior dominated group, with at least eight seniors with significant varsity experience from the 2021 team. Our goal as a team was to use this experience to help make a possible run into a very balanced Cedarburg Sectional.
The team also got the benefit and influx of a talented state-level freshman CJ Kryscio (Conner’s brother), who helped to bolster an already strong senior-dominated team. Falls’ road to state was led on the backs of our strong doubles play with #1 doubles being led by the senior / freshman brother dual of Conner and CJ Kryscio, who teamed up to make a run into the individual state tournament for a top 8 finish at the WIAA Individual State tournament.
Falls won all three flights of doubles at sectional play, as well with #2 doubles seniors Owen Tautges / Henry Pomroy and #3 doubles seniors Matthew Diestelhorst / Westley Curtiss both taking first place along with our #1 doubles to break a tie at the Cedarburg Sectional with Nicolet (The second tiebreaker was the number of sectional champions; Falls had three and Nicolet had two.), thus propelling the Falls to their first ever boys’ team state appearance.
The significance of our appearance really puts Falls on the map in terms of a tennis program. Since 2016, Menomonee Falls has had 13 individual state qualifiers in singles and doubles, with the most significant being Alex Budde’s sixth place singles finish in 2019 at the state tournament.
However, never has Falls had such a strong opportunity to get to team state until this year, mission accomplished. Falls faced Middleton in the first round of team state and lost 1-6 with our only victory coming from our #1 doubles team of Conner Kryscio and CJ Kryscio.
Overall, the season was the best in Falls’ boys tennis history! The boys tennis team had several senior standouts who deserve recognition for their contributions to our team and as students within the Menomonee Falls community; they are Conner Kryscio, Dylan Nadolski, Ben Nysse, Henry Pomroy, Owen Tautges, Sahil Shah, Matthew Diestelhorst and Westley Curtiss.
