Mona Shores baseball team wrack up individual and team awards
NORTON SHORES, Mich. — A season full of success and broken records ends in tears and goodbyes for the Mona Shores Baseball Team. The sailors began off-season workouts back in early November after the completion of the football season. After tryouts in early March, the Sailors coaching staff held a 鈥淩oles and Goals Meeting鈥 with all of their players. This meeting laid the groundwork for the Sailors鈥 successful season. The team entered district play Saturday June 4th checking off each box to date that they had set out to accomplish.
The Sailors were currently ranked 3rd in the state with a 30-4 overall record as a team which tied the school record for wins in a season. They had finished 20-1 in the OK-Green Conference and were crowned conference champions. They had put together an incredible day on City Tournament Saturday sweeping North Muskegon, Fruitport, and finally Reeth鈥檚 Puffer in the finals to be crowned City Champs!
Aside from the incredible team accomplishments, several individual records were also tied or broken. Jaxon Huffman put together an incredible season on the mound for the Sailors. Huffman finished a perfect 11-0 on the mound and racked up (123) strike outs and posted a school record (.236 ERA). Huffman also tied the school record for strikeouts in a single game with 17. We also saw Aaron Piasecki break the school record for stolen bases in a season with 42 and Mark Konecny tied the school record for Home Runs in a season with 9. Huffman also launched 8 home runs of his own, ranking him second all time in a single season.
As a coaching staff, we were blessed with six amazing seniors who showed incredible leadership on and off the field. Our underclassmen have some large shoes to fill!聽 We truly got contributions on a daily basis up and down our lineup. We ultimately fell just short of our final two team goals. We wanted to win a district championship and then make a run at a state title. While those final two boxes will remain unchecked, this team will graduate as arguably the best baseball team to ever wear the blue and white in Mona Shores History. There is never a good time for a baseball season to end, but this team was an absolute joy and a pleasure to watch and be a part of. I can only hope that as time passes and the pain fades away, we can all look back and remember just how truly special this team was!
We asked each one of our players at the beginning of the season to leave their jersey in a better place than where they found it. I never envisioned how great of a place that would turn out to be!!
