Chambersburg hosts 18th Annual Tim and Susan Cook Memorial 1-Mile Race/Walk

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The life of a beloved CASHS teacher and track/cross country coach will be celebrated Saturday, July 9, at the 18th Annual Tim and Susan Cook Memorial 1-Mile Race/Walk.

The event is held each year in memory of the couple, who were both 49 years old when they were killed in 2002 in a crash on Interstate 81 near Chambersburg.

Tim and Susan were 1971 graduates of CASHS. He was a mathematics teacher at the high school for nearly 30 years and was the coach of the girls’ cross country and track teams. Susan was an administration assistant at Shippensburg University.

Unlike many run/walk events, this one is less than a 5k—at just one mile—because Tim was the first state champion runner from CASHS and he loved the 1-mile race.

As a coach, Tim, who often accompanied his team on runs down McKinley Street, always made an effort to support runners, regardless of their speed an ability, often slowly his gate down to meet the slowest athlete.

Runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities are encouraged to attend this race.

The 18th Annual Tim and Susan Cook Memorial Race will be held Saturday, July 9, at Trojan Stadium, 511 S. Sixth St.

Check-in-registration will begin at 7 am Women and Girls Race/Walk will begin at 8 am.; Men and Boys Race/Walk will begin at 8:30 am. A results ceremony will be held at 9:30 am.

Registration is $25. To register or for more information, visit .

Money raised from the event is contributed to the Tim and Susan Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund at Chambersburg Area School District.
