‘QB1: Beyond the Lights’ star Lance LeGendre aims to shine with UL

LAFAYETTE, La. (BVM) – Throughout the third season of ‘QB1: Beyond the Lights’, the hit Netflix docuseries followed around one of the nations toprated high school quarterbacks in Lance LeGendre. The thenhigh school senior helped lead Warren Easton to a championship game before heading off to play at Maryland.

Now, the dual-threat quarterback finds himself back at home in Louisiana where he’s in the midst of a starting quarterback battle. After transferring last year to play at Louisiana Lafayette, LeGendre is hoping to recapture his prior success after playing sparingly throughout his career with the Terrapins.

Coming out of Warren Easton, LeGendre received offers from numerous Division I schools including Alabama, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee and Texas A&M. LeGendre finished his high school career by nearly willing his team to a state championship in the Eagles’ final game, losing 28-20 to Edna Karr.

After originally committing to Kansas earlier in his high school career, the re-opened his recruitment, eventually landing at Maryland where he played under former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Michael Locksley who had just taken over the Terrapins’ program.

In his two seasons with the program, LeGendre saw most of his time as a backup behind Taulia Tagovailoa, who had transferred in from Alabama, and Eric Najarian. He played in just six games throughout his two years and made his lone start against Rutgers in 2020, where he completed seven of 10 passes for 42 yards, throwing two interceptions.

With the season off last year, LeGendre is hoping to get his chance back under center in 2022. With more time to study the playbook, the Ragin’ Cajuns are hoping that LeGendre can compete for the starting role this upcoming year with last season’s starter, Levi Lewis, currently looking to make an NFL roster. Along with LeGendre, quarterbacks Ben Woolridge and Chandler Fields are among the names in the hunt for the starting position.

“Lance is so athletic,”  Louisiana Lafayette offensive coordinator. “He could play safety here; he could play wide receiver here; he can play quarterback here.”

As the team prepares for the 2022-23 season, look for LeGendre to try and leave his mark on the coaching staff in the coming months as he hopes to return to his Warren Easton success.
