Former Chillicothe athlete works to give back to young area athletes

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Throughout the late 1990s, Chillicothe鈥檚 Casey Cox was a solid two-sport athlete for the Cavaliers. His work as a student-athlete represented Chillicothe High School in a positive way.

On the baseball diamond, Cox was a four-year starter for CHS, was an All-League Ohio Capital Conference selection, and would later play baseball at Rio Grande. Cox was a three-year starter and All-League performer in basketball as well.

鈥淚 loved playing sports as a younger kid,鈥 said Cox. 鈥淧robably my fondest memory was getting to play baseball with my brother, who was a senior when I was a freshman.鈥

Today, Casey and his wife Carrie live locally with a daughter (Macie) who is a freshman at Unioto and a stepson (Cole) who is an eighth grader at Southeastern.

Cox is a supervisor for Lightle Enterprises. He also continues to give back to young athletes as he coaches middle school softball at Unioto and for MOJO on the travel scene.

鈥淚 really think sports are important for our youth,鈥 said Cox. 鈥淜ids also learn life lessons from sports. It鈥檚 not all about winning and losing at the youth levels. It鈥檚 learning the game, playing it the right way, and respecting the game. Kids also gain lifelong friendships from sports. I enjoy coaching at the youth level and seeing the kids grow to become great athletes and great human beings.鈥
