Cane Bay track and field teams roar at SCHSL State Championships
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — The 2022 Track and Field season for both the girls and boys Cane Bay High School teams is one to recognize and remember. They both represented the Cobra’s well at the State Championships and broke some school records as well!
Cane Bay Girls Track and Field Team finished 15th at the 2022 SCHSL 5A State Championships Friday May 20th at Spring Valley High School.聽 Two school records were set during the meet!聽 Sophomore Alisa Haase improved on her previous school record in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:05.76 finishing 4th place.聽 The 4脳400 Relay Team of Alisa Haase, Kaitlyn Rivers, Alaina Nettles, and Jazmyn Lapacinski set yet another school record of 4:00.79 finishing 4th place.聽 Junior Alaina Nettles, who had an amazing basketball season for the Cobras, finished 8th place Long Jump and 4th place Triple Jump.
The boys team finished 3rd in 5A State Championships!聽This is the Cobras highest finish at the 5A State Championships, behind host and State champion Spring Valley and Carolina Forest. They broke FOUR school records and a state record in the process. Seniors Jaylen Boudreaux and Jayvion Johnson made the podium 4 times each during the meet.聽 They both led our 4脳100 Relay(41.68) and 4脳400 Relay(3.20.04) teams to 4th and 3rd place finishes, breaking both school records.聽 Jayvion, our Berkley Exchange Student of the Month, finished 2nd in the 400m Dash in a new school record 47.97 and 4th in the 200m Dash.聽 Boudreaux, the defending champion at both 110 and 400 hurdles, finished 2nd in the 110 Hurdles behind Miquel Dingle of Byrnes 13.68 to 13.95.聽 Jaylen would then defend his 400 Hurdle Title with a new State Meet Record, School Record, US #1, and South Carolina All-Time Record of 51.39.聽
Senior Jerrick Manigault also made the podium in the Triple Jump with a 4th place finish in a new personal best 46-7, only one inch off the school record. Senior Kaleb Frost finished 15th in the triple jump. Senior Skylar Myers made his 1st appearance for state in the 400 where he finished 13th and helped his team finish 3rd in 4×400 relay , Mitchel Hughes 1st time as well helped his team finish 4th in 4×100 relay.Our boys 4×800 relay finished 15th with seniors Jonathan Tirado, Jack Jaedike, and Gianni Martino.聽 Emmanuel was the lead leg for the 4×400 relay that finished 3rd and he also anchored the 4×800 relay.
Honorable Mentions went to 8th grader, Asia Denson, and 9th grader, Bryson Johnson, who were reserves for the girls 4×4 and boys 4×1 relay team keep an eye out because they will be doing amazing things next track season.
Our seniors are a special group that gave everything that their best at all times, the Cane Bay Track Program, they have been positive and supportive role models to our younger team members, they will truly be missed. We are forever grateful!
