Mona Shores soccer players soon to play at collegiate level
NORTON SHORES, Mich. — Mona Shores High School is proud to announce that four of their varsity soccer team members will continue to play at the college level, according to coach Dylan Darga. These student athletes are:
Mia Brown who will play at Calvin College. Mia will follow the footsteps of her two older siblings who also played/play college soccer. Her brother Ethan is playing soccer at Calvin College right now and her older sister Nora just got done at MCC after making back-to-back trips to nationals. Mia is a three-year varsity player and was pulled up late her freshman year to join the varsity. “Mia is probably one of the most key returners on our team this year.”
Ella Buikema will attend Spring Arbor University. Ella is a four-year varsity letter recipient for our program. She had a tremendous year in the net for us last year. She will be a key part to our success we have this year.
Lydia Sowles will play at Muskegon Community College. Lydia was our second-leading scorer last year as a junior. She has a great balance of speed and control. She has amazing range when looking to find the back of the net.
Addison Nellis is attending Indiana Tech. Addison is going to play a big role for us this year for her senior year. She is someone who won’t get all the high stats but is a huge part of what we are trying to do. She is a workhorse and loves this game.
We have three other seniors who are equally as important but aren’t choosing to play college soccer.
The end goal isn’t to put every player we get in our program to a college or university to play soccer. The goal is to provide the best possible experience we can for these young adults and teach them life lessons through sports. We want this to be one of the most memorable experiences they have in high school. I truly believe that this is the best arena they will ever play in (high school sports). You get to represent the community, school and families that helped shape you into the individual that they are today. There is nothing like it.
Mia Brown, a senior at Mona Shores High School, said the following: “Coach Darga has played a huge role in my soccer career. He’s pushed me to play my best since he’s been my coach. He knows what I am capable of doing and makes sure I am at that level all the time. He has made me grow as a person and a better player. I really appreciate everything he’s done for me. He has truly made my high school career a fun experience and because of how much I’ve been pushed I am able to continue my soccer career at Calvin University.“
