Softball programs in Rumson going strong
RUMSON, N.J. — Softball is going strong in Rumson! Starting with the high school, RFH softball is playing its first varsity schedule since 2019 in the Shore Conference which is widely accepted as one of the hardest conferences in New Jersey. The program has also expanded to house both a varsity and jv team.
The coaching staff includes Head Coach Jerry Gagliano and Assistant Coach/JV Coach Tess Gagliano. You might have also seen Coach Jerry on the football field in the fall as he is also the RFH Head Freshman Football Coach. Fun fact – Jerry is also Tess’ father and was her softball coach at Mater Dei Prep and her travel softball coach. Now they coach RFH softball alongside one another as a father-daughter powerhouse combo. As you drive by RFH High School, you can see the team hard at work on their beautiful new state of the art turf field.Â

BULLDAWGS Softball, Rumson’s affiliated travel softball program, continues to grow as well and now has over a hundred girls on seven different teams ranging from 8U to 16U! Bulldawgs Softball is a 501(c)(3) organization headed by Nick Sophinos, Melina Sophinos, Irene Hall, Amber Herr, Phil Martinelle, and Lori Missig. The program also just welcomed two former professional softball players Alicia Herron of the Akron Racers and Lisa Lacin of the NYC Juggernauts as program trainers. The Bulldawgs 12U and 16U teams are also gearing up for their first ever appearance at the Eastern Nationals this summer in Ocean City, MD!
As high school and travel softball continue to expand, so does Rumson Recreation Softball! Rumson Recreation softball has six teams from 1st to 7th grade in Two River Little League. Rumson Recreation teams continue to be competitive and this summer, with great excitement, players on the 4th/5th and 6th/7th grade level teams will play an official Softball Little League All Star schedule and have the opportunity to vie to represent New Jersey in the Softball Little League World Series. Charlie Hoffman, the Rumson Recreation Director, continues to support softball on all levels throughout the town. For those who have never played softball before, recreation sports is a great way to start your softball journey!
