What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Waring:聽The biggest challenge I鈥檝e faced in my sport is adjusting and mental blocks. I say this because having the ability to adjust is very crucial and going through mental blocks may be hard to get over, but they do eventually go away.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Waring:聽The best piece of advice I have ever been given is to be confident. I got this from Kayla Kowalik, The University of Kentucky鈥檚 starting catcher.

What do you love about your sport?

Waring: I love the speed and the challenge of Softball.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Waring:聽Besides warming up, I don鈥檛 really have a routine. If I鈥檓 warming up a pitcher, then I go through the same drills and stretches, but besides that I don鈥檛 really have anything.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

Waring: I love to draw! I love drawing because it allows me to express myself and I see myself as having a career in art.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Waring: What I have learned from softball is how to work together and how to work as part of a team. Being a catcher, your job on the field is to lead, and in order to get the right result you have to be able to lead and communicate with your teammates.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Waring:聽A mistake I’ve made while competing is when I had a bad throw to first that caused the other team to have a walk-off. It made me mad in the moment but it allowed me to see that mistakes are a part of the game, and that you have to work at the little things to be able to get the big things. I have fixed this by working on better throws and focusing when things get crazy.

Are there any other thoughts you鈥檇 like to leave our readers with?

Waring:聽Always believe in yourself! This will take you a long way! I would also say have confidence because it helps and is infectious in a team environment. Lastly, I would say to smile because it helps you be in a better mood and could also spread throughout the team and help the team do better!
