Egg Harbor Township鈥檚 spring season standouts
EGG HARBOR, N.J. —聽With the spring season well underway, Egg Harbor Township athletes continue to soar in a variety of sports. We enlisted the help of Glory Days publisher and local sports aficionado, Dave O’Sullivan, to share his pick for the season’s standouts thus far.
Jacob Cagna
The Egg Harbor Township baseball team has some outstanding young players, and perhaps making the biggest impression so far has been freshman infielder Jacob Cagna. Through May 9 he had a .304 batting average that included 17 hits, 13 runs, 12 RBIs, eight walks and eight stolen bases. He also has shown some power at the plate with four doubles and two home runs.
Justin Sweeney
Egg Harbor Township junior Justin Sweeney has had a tremendous season on the mound for the Eagles, posting a 4-1 record through May 9. His best performance came on April 26 when he threw 101 pitches in a complete-game shutout victory over Ocean City. The Eagles won, 1-0, and Sweeney allowed just one hit while striking out 11 batters. He’s given a verbal commitment to Rutgers University, where his older brother, Jordan, has been leading the Scarlet Knights to one of their best seasons ever.
Madison Dollard
Softball is all about pitching, and Egg Harbor Township has one of the best in sophomore right-hander Madison Dollard. Dollard followed up an outstanding freshman campaign with even more dominance as a sophomore. Through May 9, in 75 innings pitched, she had recorded 114 strikeouts and allowed just seven earned runs. She also allowed just 15 walks and surrendered only 48 hits.
Hayley Henderson
Hayley Henderson, now a senior, had her junior season wiped away due to the covid-19 pandemic, but she has still managed to reach 100 goals in her Egg Harbor Township High girls lacrosse career. She racked up 50 goals and nine assists as a sophomore two years ago, and this spring, through the Eagles’ first 13 games, Henderson tallied 59 goals and 22 assists to break the century mark in both goals scored (109) and points (105).
