Water runs deep for Highland Park HS鈥檚 state medalist Lindsey Hosch

DALLAS, Texas — Lindsey Hosch, a native of the Park Cities, recently won the state championship in the 100-yard breaststroke and her 5th individual state medal in the 100-yard butterfly for Highland Park聽HS. She is driven, motivated and has tremendous confidence while maintaining an admirable level of humility. But what you don鈥檛 see in her at first is her discipline, perseverance, and belief in self. The longer you talk with Lindsey, the more impressed you become.

Lindsey began swimming in summer league at the age of five, and at nine, joined a club team. But at the age of 12, after setting several records, she hit a plateau. Finally, as a sophomore, she began to improve on her times again. 鈥淭here wasn鈥檛 an Ah-Hah moment. You work so hard for so long and every day you have to find something to do better than you did the day before鈥. Her friends tell her that she never seems to be upset when she doesn鈥檛 swim well. They don鈥檛 realize how motivated and driven she is.

鈥淚 am rarely satisfied with my results鈥 always have the same outward emotions鈥. Her mom Kelly says that Lindsey is a great leader. 鈥淪he leads by example and has high values and morals.鈥 Her swimming career has come full circle as she coaches for the same summer league where she got her start. And if you want to take swimming lessons this summer, I can鈥檛 think of a better person to call. In her free time, she hangs out with friends and her mom, and walks her Golden Retriever Nala (ref The Lion King).

When Lindsey touched the wall to win the state championship in her last meet, it wasn鈥檛 the last time she鈥檒l pull off the goggles and check the scoreboard. This fall, she鈥檒l wear burnt orange instead of the blue and gold she wore proudly at HPHS. As a Longhorn, she joins a squad that placed 2nd in the NCAA championships. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a really good program with multiple Olympians and national champions鈥. She added, 鈥淚 look forward to taking everything I learned from high school swimming and applying it to the next level.鈥 Before rising to Scots swim captain Lindsey looked up to the older kids on her team for inspiration. As the new kid, she鈥檒l have the same chance with her teammates at UT. When asked if she has Olympic aspirations, her humility surfaced when she said, 鈥淲e鈥檒l see鈥nything can happen鈥. There鈥檚 been a lot of talk about Matthew Stafford, Clayton Kershaw, and Scottie Scheffler and who is the greatest athlete of all time (G.O.A.T.) from HPHS. Keep an eye on Lindsey Hosch鈥he may wind up being the G.O.A.T.
