Loyola Marymount tennis, led by Miroshnichenko, lands top 20 in ITA rankings
LOS ANGELES — The Loyola Marymount University women’s tennis team (12-2) has jumped from the No. 38 in the top 75 ITA Tennis Rankings, which is the highest LMU has been ranked in program history, to now making new history by landing the No. 17 spot in latest .
“I’m glad we are in the top 20 at the No. 17 spot,” stated Coach聽. “It’s the highest spot LMU Women’s Tennis has been ranked in program history.”
The Lions earned these high rankings after beating No. 4 ranked UCLA, which then sparked a six-game winning streak. Their only loss comes from No. 18 ranked USC.聽聽also just earned West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week honors.
“We have to be strong, this is the first half of the season, so we have the keep managing things like we have,” Coach Moreno added. “If we can stay healthy, things will go even further in the end.”
, the No.1 singles phenom has elevated in the latest ITA rankings with her stellar performances, ranks in the No. 88 spot individually.
Miroshnichenko has been dominating for the Lions at the No. 1 position, currently holding a 9-1 overall record in singles and a 7-1 record with her No. 2 pair,聽聽in doubles. On Mar. 15, she won WCC Singles Player of the Week for her performances against UPENN resulting in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Miroshnichenko has helped the Lions defeat several tough teams this season, including a victory over No. 4 ranked UCLA. Her most recent matches against Saint Mary’s and Pacific ended in a sweep, as she defeated both opponents. She is currently 2-1 in the West Coast Conference and on a nine-game win streak.
