Top 10 Colorado baseball players in Class of 2022
AURORA, Colo. (BVM) 鈥� As the weather begins to warm up consistently and the flowers begin to bloom all over the country, it is signaling the end of the spring 2022 baseball season all over the country. High school seniors have been raising their game to either solidify a spot on a collegiate squad or further raise their draft stock and standing with an already existing collegiate team.聽
Here are Colorado’s top 10 baseball players for the Class of 2022.聽
10. Camden Ross, C, Broomfield
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Ross is rated by Prep Baseball Report as the No.2 catching prospect and has had a great all-around season. He has posted a .638 batting average while totaling 30 hits, 26 RBIs, and five HRs, all coming off of his bat at a screaming exit velocity of 102 mph. Hitting isn鈥檛 the only reason Ross is ranked as the No. 2 overall catching prospect; he also has great prowess behind the plate. Ross has an excellent catcher pop time of 1.90 to 1.94 seconds and an extremely competitive catcher throwing velocity of 78 mph. Ross is committed to Wabash Valley Junior College in Carmel, Illinois.聽

9. Dylan Carrey, SS, Ponderosa
Ranked by PBR as the No. 1 overall prospect of the 2022 Colorado recruiting class, 6-foot-3, 195-pound University of Nebraska recruit Dylan Carrey has had a solid year. In 14 games, Carrey has posted a .404 batting average with 19 hits, six of which were extra-base hits, two home runs,and 18 RBIs. While this is, by no question, a very solid season, it has been a bit of a drop-off from his junior campaign, where he posted high numbers.聽
8. Dallas Macias, SS, Regis Jesuit聽
This year for Regis Jesuit, Macias has been a standout player and a vital piece for the Raider鈥檚 14-2 season. The 6-foot, 190-pound Macias, who is committed to Oregon State, is tied for the third-most home runs in Colorado (6), has the sixth-most hits in the state (33), and has a .589 batting average, which all are coming off his bat at a popping exit velocity of 101 mph. Macias is also a speedy prospect, running a 6.94-second 60-yard dash. This speed is also why Macias is a multi-sport athlete, playing football for Regis Jesuit as a wide receiver and defensive back.聽
7. Luke Meyers, RHP/OF, Heritage聽聽
Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 180-pounds, Meyers has good size and athleticism that suits him on the mound, in the outfield, and hitting. He has four pitches, an 87 mph fastball, a 69 mph curveball, a 72 mph slider, and a mean 74 mph changeup with 22.6 inches of total movement average. Those pitches have totaled him 49 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.85. Meyers has also tallied a .449 batting average, 22 hits, and 18 RBIs. He is committed to Arizona Junior college in Maricopa, Arizona.
6. Ethan Zimmerman, LHP/OF, Manual聽
Coming in as another underrated and underrecruited player, 5-foot-10, 160-pound Zimmerman may not be highly recruited or ranked, but his stats as a two-way player say the opposite. He has totaled an ERA of 1.98 and only has allowed one home run. However, where Zimmerman has genuinely shined this year is within the strikeout category. He has totaled an astonishing 91 strikeouts through his 10 appearances, which is No. 1 in the state and top 55 in the country. All the while, he has maintained a .525 batting average with 21 hits, 22 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases. As one of the most versatile players, Zimmerman has committed to Wells College in Aurora, New York.
5. Markus Hamre, 1B/OF, Ralston Valley
One of the most surprising players, 6-foot-3, 215-pound Hamre has indeed been dropping the 鈥渉ammer鈥� on opposing pitchers. Hamre is another recruit that has been very underrecruited and not highly covered. However, throughout his 16-game season so far, Hamre has posted a .581 batting average, 33 RBIs (No. 3 in the state), and 11 extra-base hits. Beyond being a consistent contact hitter, Hamre truly has one of the biggest bats in the entire state and the country. Hamre has posted 12 home runs, placing him at No.1 in the state and tying him for No. 13 in the country. Moreover, Hamre is also currently on a six-game home run hitting streak. After this fantastic season, Hamre will be taking his talents to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.聽聽

4. Reese Chapman, OF, Grandview
Chapman, standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 205 pounds, comes into the 2022 recruiting class ranked by PBR as the No. 1 overall outfielder, and it is easy to see why when looking at his fielding statistics. Throughout 16 games in this 2022 season, Chapman boasts a perfect fielding percentage at 1.000; this is out of 19 total catches, 18 putouts, one double play, and an impressive zero errors. In fact, throughout all of Chapman鈥檚 high school career, he has only had one season out of three where he did not have a perfect fielding percentage. Even then, that season, the fielding percentage was still at an impressive .967. Beyond Chapman鈥檚 defensive prowess, he has also had a consistent season hitting the ball, boasting a .477 batting average, 21 hits, eight extra-base hits, and 15 RBIs. The defensive superstar Chapman is committed to the University of Tennessee and looks to raise his draft stock playing in the SEC as a Volunteer.聽

3. Keenan Proctor, OF, Valor Christian
Easily one of, if not the fastest player in the 2022 class, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Proctor posted a blistering 60-yard-dash time of 6.43 seconds. This high-class speed of his pays off for him both in the outfield and on the basepaths. Proctor has posted an impressive 4.25-second home-to-first time, translating into 11 stolen bases. Beyond that, his speed has also helped him leg out an impressive number of triples — four this past season, which totals out to eight total extra-base hits when combined with his double total. He has also been quite consistent swinging the bat, posting a .414 batting average on 24 hits, 25 RBIs, and four home runs. Proctor will be taking this elite speed talent to UCLA to continue and compete in the Pac-12.
2. Tyler Mejia, LHP, Mountain Vista
As Prep Baseball Report’s No. 1 ranked uncommitted recruit and No. 2 ranked pitcher, many would think Mejia, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 175-pounds, only focuses on pitching, but that certainly would not be the case; he is one of the most athletic and versatile recruits. Mejia has an 87 mph fastball, an exploding 74.5 mph curveball with 12 inches of total movement, and an arcing 77.7 mph changeup that has 17.5 total inches of movement. These deadly three pitches have totaled Mejia 44 strikeouts, an ERA of 1.18, and an opposing batting average of 1.78, all while giving up 0 home runs. However, Mejia is still one of the top batters in the state, tied for the No. 3 most hits (34) with 25 RBIs and a batting average of .576.聽

1. Christian Foutch, RHP, Chatfield聽
Considered the No.1 pitching recruit and the No. 2 overall recruit, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Foutch has been high on many recruiting boards throughout his high school career. With an 81 mph slider, 81 mph splitter, and a blistering fastball that tops out at 92 mph, Foutch has totaled 38 strikeouts, a 2.17 ERA, and only allowed an opposing batting average of .153 in five appearances and 383 total pitches this spring. Foutch will be taking his talents to the University of Arkansas to continue his career as a Razorback.
