Maine South鈥檚 Madison Basquin racing towards success
PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Sophomore Madison Basquin is in her second season of Track & Field at Maine South and already well on her way to becoming the school鈥檚 next track star!
Basquin specializes in Hurdles, High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump and occasional sprint races. She鈥檚 come extremely close to shattering school records in multiple track events, like the 50 meter low hurdles and 50 meter high hurdles, triple jump and high jump. 鈥淚 have hope for possibly beating them in the remainder of this season or in the following season. It was good to see where I am at and how hard I need to work to get even further and hopefully break some of the records,鈥� tells Basquin.
Supported by her coaches, Basquin works closely with Coach Harvey Brouse for hurdles and Coach Kathleen Durkin for jumps. 鈥淚t is good to know that I have coaches who understand the way I compete and what I need to hear when at a meet,鈥� says Basquin. 鈥淭hey push me to reach my full potential and to always do my best.鈥�
This season鈥檚 first major win for Basquin was at her home meet against Maine East and Maine West. 鈥淚n my first 100 meter dash of the season I had a major personal record where I ran 13.47 and took first in the event.鈥�
Basquin attributes much of her love for the sport and success within it to her supportive teammates. 鈥淚 am most grateful for the teammates that do the same events as me who I often compete against. I wouldn鈥檛 be where I am today without them by my side in a race urging me to do my best and my urging them to do the same. I also have some friendly competitions where we always drive each other to be the best we can be and no matter the result of the race we always come together and congratulate each other for the hard work we鈥檝e done.鈥�
The upcoming competitions against New Trier and Loyola high schools will serve as some of Basquin鈥檚 fiercest competition yet, but she is excited to push herself against other great talent. She enjoys working hard because it鈥檒l pay off. 鈥淧ersonally, my biggest motivator would be the future. I鈥檓 always working hard in hopes that I鈥檓 setting myself up for success and happiness in the future, like in college and after. I would love to play at a college level and hope to play at a Division 1 school.鈥�
Basquin says, 鈥淚鈥檝e learned that you鈥檙e not always going to win. You may win alot of races but you won鈥檛 win them all, and that is okay. All you can do is try your very best and even if you may not feel it is always good enough it is all you can do.鈥�
