Hudsonville High鈥檚 water polo teams continue to show what they鈥檙e made of
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. —聽Hudsonville High School has become the breeding ground for amazing water polo players. The boys鈥� team has held the state champion spot since 2019. The girls鈥� team has had the state champion title secured since 2017. As reigning champions, both teams are continuing to work hard to keep their titles at home this season.
Several former Hudsonville High water polo athletes have moved on to Michigan State University, where their water polo team has recently won the Big 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association National Titles as undefeated champions. There are a few notable stars that helped to make those wins possible.
Ian Worst scored 13 goals in the CWPA National with the winning shot coming in at just under 45 seconds. He also was named All-Tournament Second Team. Chandler Jones had an awesome game as the 5 meter defender! Jones had a series of pivotal steals, assists and blocks that helped secure the team鈥檚 victory. Lastly, Ethan Springer gave the game all he had with two broken fingers on one hand that he received from blocking shots during the CWPA National. He displayed extreme determination and grit to help his team walk away successful. These incredible athletes have been playing on polo and swim teams together since middle school.
Currently, Hudsonville High鈥檚 water polo team is off to an amazing start with solid defense being a staple of their team dynamic. If you are looking to get in on the action, their schedule is jam packed with season games until May 9th. The District tournament is on May 13th, the Regional tournament is May 20th, and the States tournament is on June 10th if you are interested in tuning in.
