Abigail Heath making waves at Boyle County
DANVILLE, Ky. — When swimming comes up in sports news, names like Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky are two who brought home gold in the past 20 years of Olympic swimming. But, here in Boyle County, we have Abigail Heath, who strives to be one of the best swimmers in our community.
Abigail started swimming competitively when she was just seven. 鈥淢y dad pushed me to join a summer swim team because a lot of my friends participated and also to improve my swimming ability,鈥 she says. Her father, Jeff Heath, teaches math at Centre. Mom Shanna teaches Social Studies at Boyle County Middle School.
Currently, Abigail swims on the Boyle County High School swim team, even though she鈥檚 still in middle school, and Central Kentucky Aquatics, where she excels on the CKA short course team.
Abigail credits the women who first coached her鈥揟asha Singleton and Katy Freeman鈥揳s her inspiration to succeed. 鈥淚 also look up to the older swimmers on my team because they always encourage me to do my best,鈥 she says.
What runs through Abigail’s mind when she鈥檚 in the water swimming?
“I think about my technique and how to swim as efficiently as possible to lower my time,鈥 she says.
So, the next time you鈥檙e at Centre鈥檚 pool, you may see Abigail, a future Olympic swimmer in action.
