Vincent Massey girls basketball season recap
BRANDON, Manitoba — We had the head coach of the Vincent Massey Varsity Girls Basketball team Liz Glenn answer some questions for us to provide a brief recap on their recent season.
The Vincent Massey Varsity Girls Basketball Program has been around for over 30 years, and the聽Vikings are currently a AAAA team in Zone 15 under MHSAA classifications.
The team captains for the 2021-2022 season were Sara Synk and Claryssa Nelson. I’m told both these girls were vital parts to the team鈥檚 success as they lead the behind the scenes work when it came to the relationship or bonding of the team and their mental health, with them checking on their teammates and making everyone feel welcomed and valued on the team. Sara also led the team on the court with an impressive 221 point season.
“Our team-oriented goal for the season was to improve our shooting and offensive play success rate,” Coach Liz said, “and the聽main motivator for the team to reach their goals this season was getting the
opportunity to showcase all their work that they had undergone and improved on over the course of the season.”
Some traditions that the team has is that senior players get to pick their jersey numbers first when the season starts, and that the girls often celebrate wins with slurpees. It’s definitely clear talking to Coach Liz that the team had a a fun season and that everyone was happy to be back out there on the court this year!
