I love this game
LIBERTY, Mo. — Entering High School, I weighed a whopping 100 lbs. and stood a towering 5鈥7. While freshman year was definitely a learning experience to say the least, I never had to learn to love baseball. I had aspirations of playing Liberty Baseball well before my freshman year however despite pouring myself into the program I was cut from not only Varsity and JV but both C teams as well. For some, 鈥渋t鈥 comes naturally.
For me that was never the case. Entering sophomore year of tryouts, I was one of the few players who came back after being cut the year prior. Again, I was cut from the team. By my junior year I would be the last remaining player in my class to try out who had not yet made the team. I didn鈥檛 make it. Heading into my senior year I had no expectation of making the team, but I owed it to myself to see it through.
After 4 years of continuing to show up, I was certain I would be sent on my way and to be honest I was at peace with that. If you base success on results then you will struggle to find it. Success is a journey. I went into my senior year tryouts having had a successful journey yet never having achieved my goal. That year I would end up achieving my goal of making Varsity where we would go on to win the State Championship for the second time in school history! After getting my first hit for Liberty Baseball a few years later than most, I would make a post on Snapchat with the video of my hit with the caption 鈥淚 love this game!鈥 That saying would be echoed by my teammates, many of whom I would go on to make lasting friendships with. As the saying really never died out (even to this day) 鈥渉e loves this game鈥 would end up being permanently engraved in the State Championship ring.
The relationships, growth, and experience I gained from Liberty Baseball will serve me for the rest of my career on and off the field. While my story with Liberty Baseball ends there, my story with baseball does not. I am currently playing club baseball at Northwest Missouri State and continue to have aspirations of playing higher level baseball.
