University of Maryland attacker Aurora Cordingley is reaching milestones in women鈥檚 lacrosse
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (BVM) 鈥 Senior attacker and transfer student Aurora Cordingley has made quite a name for herself this season, earning a plethora of awards and nominations. However, despite these impressive achievements, Cordingley鈥檚 only current focus is to help her team win the Big Ten championship.聽
Cordingley is a fifth year senior at the University of Maryland. Cordingley transferred to Maryland this year after spending her last four years in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins University. Cordingley has made a seamless transition to UMD this year, fitting right in with the veteran Terps.
鈥淭he best thing about transferring to Maryland has to be the friendships that I鈥檝e made and the memories that I鈥檝e created here. This experience has surpassed all of my expectations and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to be surrounded by every day,鈥 Cordingley said.聽
Cordingley is the nation鈥檚 leader in points per game this season and has just been named Big Ten offensive player of the week for the fourth time this season, something that hasn’t been done since Taylor Cummings played at UMD in 2016.聽
鈥淭aylor is someone that I have always looked up to so it鈥檚 really special to see my name up there with hers,鈥 Cordingley said.聽
Cordingley explained that even the most decorated players in college lacrosse face challenges and obstacles on the road to success. Cordingley discussed that the Terps鈥 loss to JMU earlier in the season was a challenge for their team.
鈥淲e were never put in that position before so It鈥檚 been great seeing how we鈥檝e responded since then and how we have聽 grown,鈥 Cordingley said.
The Terps are 13-1 this season with two more in-conference games remaining before the Big Ten championship. Cordingley is leading the Terps鈥 offense this season racking up numerous awards.
鈥淚 didn’t expect nor did I ever think about individual achievements when I decided I was transferring. It’s exciting to reach these important milestones, but I am most focused on helping my team achieve our goals of winning the national championship,鈥 Cordingley said.聽
The Terps have their last home game of the season this Saturday, April 23rd against Northwestern before gearing up for the playoffs next week.聽聽聽
