Urbana HS athletes & area youth run collaborative event on the turf
IJAMSVILLE, Md. —聽The聽UHS Lacrosse Powder Puff Game and Youth Clinic is a great sense of community, bringing the high school and youth programs together for a fun night. The event was聽started in 2019 during my son鈥檚 junior season on the UHS Boys Lacrosse team (my daughter is currently part of the UHS Girls Lacrosse program) as something fun for the kids and to possibly try and raise some money for the high school programs. UHS Varsity Lacrosse coaches Gavin Donahue and Ann Lewis supported the idea and expanded it to include a youth clinic.
The event is becoming an annual fundraiser in which JV and varsity boys and girls have a friendly competition using each other鈥檚 sticks, followed by the high school coaches and players–many of whom played for Urbana Youth Lacrosse–working with the youth program.
This year, the boys won bragging rights, we exceeded fundraising in 2019 through generous donations and raffles (the event was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid), and we had a great turnout for the youth clinic.聽Urbana has聽a strong youth and high school lacrosse program聽built on聽supportive coaches, dedicated volunteers, and good families working together. It is great to see the smiles from all the kids, big and little.聽I hope the tradition continues and grows long after my kids have graduated.
“This opportunity allowed our student-athletes to lead younger players and play with each other, in a fun competitive game.聽 A lot of cheers, laughter, and learning happened throughout the day and we are so excited to continue this tradition for years to come!” -Coach Lewis
鈥淚 think it is a great opportunity for the boys and girls program to run a collaborative event where the players from both programs have fun as well as getting the urbana lacrosse community for an evening of fun.聽 It also gives the opportunity for the boys and girls high school players to interact with the youth players for our clinic that follows the game.” -Coach Donahue
