TROPHY CLUB, Texas — A Q&A with Bryon football player David Kabongo.
How did you get interested in sports?
David Kabongo: I got interested by watching college football and the NFL as well as the Olympics. I play football and run track. I started in peewee with TCR and now play varsity at Byron.

What role do your parents play in your education and sports?
Kabongo: My parents come here from a different country and they pushed and motivated me to participate in sports and excel in academics. Being a first-generation American, I鈥檓 driven to make them proud of me after all the support and opportunity they鈥檝e given me.
Of what achievement are you most proud?
Kabongo: I鈥檓 most proud of making it three rounds deep in the playoffs winning area, and I鈥檓 most proud of making 2nd team all-district for academics.
Who are your sports heroes?
Kabongo: I admire Jaylen Ramsey and Lebron James because of their confidence and their high-level performance.
What’s your favorite team? Where would you like to go to school?
Kabongo: My favorite professional team is the Seattle Seahawks, and my college is Clemson University. I鈥檇 like to attend any Division 1 university in either Texas, California, or Florida, but preferably Baylor.
Do you have any rituals or superstitious things you do before a meet or game?
Kabongo: I always listen to the same playlist in the same order without skipping songs to get me locked in. The three that get me really going are We Win by Lil Baby, Dior by Gunna, and If You Want To by Lil Durk.
