What is it that drew you to running in the first place?
Dylan Schubert: My first experience running was in a 5th grade fitness test for PE;, including a mile run on the soccer field;. Some of the students wanted to get the 7 min mile 鈥減residential range鈥 and the principal came out and paced a couple students. I was a bit off [the time], but thought it was fun.
What keeps you going?
Schubert: My love for the sport. There are days that are really tough, but if I keep stringing together days of training – just like any other sport – and get through those tough days, they make me stronger.
Like with any skill or sport you try, it鈥檚 going to take a lot of hours before you get good at it, before you can do it without thinking, like typing or playing an instrument or any sport; you get used to it; the body learns how to be used to being stressed. You just get good at it; can feel smooth at it.
How long do you see yourself running? Do you see yourself ever growing tired of it?
Schubert: I feel like ultimately 鈥 like how I view life 鈥 I鈥檒l take it one day at a time. I鈥檒l deal with aging as necessary. The joy running has brought me thus far 鈥 once my career is over, I want to know I put my mind to it and really enjoyed it.
