La Lumiere athletes rally to bring baseball back better than ever
LA PORTE, Ind. — At the start of the academic year, enthusiasm for baseball was clear. Two students, Max Macri of Long Beach and Norm Cherrett of New Buffalo, advocated for the baseball team to not only return to La Lumiere after a two-year COVID hiatus, but to take the program to the next level.
鈥淭hey had a groundswell of support from the student body and administration, and were successful in rallying a big group of players to come out for the team and to bring back Laker baseball better than ever,鈥 Athletic Director Pat Holmes said.
Head Coach Matt Marvin and assistant coaches John Torres, Matt Buchanan, and Ethan Troyer began preparing the team for the season in mid-January by offering voluntary winter workout sessions in the La Lumiere Fieldhouse and weekly opportunities to travel to the South Bend Cubs鈥 facility for additional conditioning and batting practice.
鈥淲e鈥檙e so excited for the return of our baseball program and we are looking forward to setting the tone for future success for our team and players,鈥 Coach Marvin said. The first game of the season is slated for March 29 against South Bend Riley.鈥擝arbara Voris Eastman
