Spotlight on the Homestead HS girls swim team
MEQUON, Wis. — Responding to themes of trust and cooperation, the Homestead High School Girls Swim and Dive Team posted a solid 2021 fall season, capped off with a strong showing at the conference meet and appearances at state for five team members.
鈥淥ur energetic and supportive team was definitely the highlight of my season. While my teammates and I pushed ourselves to be the best we could be, we also knew how to make each other smile when we needed it,鈥 junior diver Lauren Van Vooren said. 鈥淭here were a lot of learning experiences throughout the season, which challenged me to grow and perform better.鈥
Van Vooren placed first at the North Shore Conference meet, earning her third consecutive appearance at state. Fellow junior diver Maagie Pokorny finished third at the conference meet.
The 200 yard freestyle relay team took first place at the North Shore Conference meet, sending seniors Bella Magee and Michelle Martin and juniors Payton Rater and Mariah Reynolds to the state meet at the Waukesha South Natatorium. Reynolds placed second at the conference meet in the 100 yard freestyle. Homestead finished fourth overall in the conference.
鈥淭his year we emphasized trust and cooperation more than anything,鈥 Magee said. 鈥淢y coach taught me a lot this season, but my biggest takeaway from it all was you cannot force someone to 鈥榳ant it,鈥 whatever that may be. They have to have their own personal motivation, and it showed a lot throughout our swimmers this year!鈥
