Lasell men鈥檚 lacrosse falls to Emerson
NEWTON, Mass. (BVM) — The struggle continued for the Lasell University men鈥檚 lacrosse team against the Emerson Lions as the Lasers fell to 0-5 on the season. The reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference champions fell by a score of 12-9 at home.
The Lions struck first in the opening minutes as junior attack Nicholas Fulgione opened the scoring off a Birk Swan assist. The Lasers responded with back–to–back goals as sophomore Anthony DeRosa and junior Landon Reyes put Lasell on the board.
The lead wouldn鈥檛 last long as the Lions quickly jumped out to a 5-2 lead as the first quarter ended. The second quarter belonged to Lasell as they shutout the Lions and scored three goals as senior Jordan Hines scored his first two goals of the game and freshman point leader for the Lasers, Ryan Stone, chipped in a goal as well. The game would go into the half tied at five.聽
The Lasers grabbed a fourth straight goal to start the second half as senior David Burke scored less than two minutes in for the Lasers. The lead did not last long for the Lasers as the Lions went on to score five straight in response to take a four goal lead.聽
Swan chipped in with three goals and an assist during that time. Swan finished the game with three goals and three assists as he led the Lions to victory.聽
Junior Nate Whitehead gave Lasell life in the fourth quarter as he scored his first two goals of the season. However, it would not be enough as the Lions added two more goals to their tally in the fourth. Hines would go on to complete his hat trick in the final seconds, but it was not enough for the Lasers.聽
Seniors Alex Beauchmin and Malcolm McGrath had great days in goal recording 13 saves each for the Lasers and Lions respectively.聽
Despite the loss, Beauchmin saw some positives for the Lasers.聽
鈥淚 think our clears looked a lot better. Our offense is really starting to click,鈥 the Laser goalie said. 鈥淚f you look from the MIT game to now we look like a lot better team. We鈥檙e all coming together trying to play more as a team rather than individual players.鈥

Going forward the senior goalie emphasized it is all about the Lasers putting it together for a full game.聽
鈥淚 think we have done a lot of good things so far. It’s about bringing it all together now, making all those right steps and doing it in one game鈥aving four quarters of good lacrosse,鈥 Beauchmin said.
If the Lasers are going to defend their GNAC title, Beauchmin believes attitude will play a major role.聽
鈥淎ttitude, it鈥檚 a big thing this year, it’s a big thing in sports. We all have to want that, go out there and want that ball, to win that game and really go out there and have that fight and be hungry,鈥 Beauchmin said. 鈥淲e all have to be hungry and do everything we can to get that win.鈥
The Lasers have one last non-conference game on Wednesday at home against Eastern Connecticut at 1 p.m. before they open up conference play next Saturday.
