Colts Neck athletes showing dominating talents on and track and field

COLTS NECK, N.J. — Congratulations to Colts Neck High School鈥檚 Girls鈥 Indoor Track team! The team is led by their Coach, Kevin Hein and assistant coaches Jim Schlentz, John Flood, John Hickey, Camille Bertholon, Mike Pinnola and Colton Lambert. They recently took home the title as the, “Central Jersey Group 3 State Sectional Champions.” This is the team’s 3rd title in a row with winnings in 2019 and 2020. Due to Covid, there was no championship meet in 2021 but now they鈥檙e the proud 2022 champions.

鈥淕oing into the meet, we were probably considered slight underdogs but in the end we won by a comfortable margin,鈥 says Coach Hein.

The team won 26 points ahead of 2nd place winners, Middletown North, ending in a 80-54 score. This unbeatable 80 point victory was the highest total the girls had ever scored at a Sectional Championship. The place winners were as follows:

400: Kylie Jacoutot 2nd

800: Lilly Shapiro 1st, Olivia Petschauer 2nd, Ava Suhocki 5th

1600: Lilly Shapiro 1st, Ashley Pavlovsky 4th, Ava Wilmot 5th

3200: Presslie Mariner 1st, Lilly Shapiro 2nd

High Jump: Katherine Taylor 2nd

55 Hurdles: Kylie Jacoutot 5th place

Shot Put: Mikaela Hartman 6th place

4 x 400 Relay: Kylie Jacoutot, Rosie Raggi, Olivia Petschauer, Ava Suhocki 1st place

Beyond winning the Central Jersey Group 3 title, the girls also placed 2nd in all of Group 3 at the State Relays. This incredible feat is in competition with approximately 100 other schools!聽 Coach Hein is beyond proud of this season but highlights the most outstanding individual performance. On February 11th, Lilly Shapiro ran 4:45.39 in the mile at the Boston University David Hemery Invite. This talented athlete ran against college and professional runners. Lily鈥檚 time is a Shore Conference record and the second best time in the history of NJ indoor track and field. She already holds the NJ outdoor state record in the 1600, which she set last Spring (4:40.15).

It is also important to mention that this is the 10th straight sectional title for this team, if you stretch across all three seasons (Cross Country, Indoor Track and Spring Track). The season of winning wasn鈥檛 even quite over for the girls. On Saturday, February 26th at the Group 3 Championships, Lilly Shapiro won the individual state titles in the 800 and 1600. In addition, the girls鈥 Distance Medley Relay broke the Freehold Regional District record at the New York City Armory. They ran 11:49.73 which holds a ranking of #4 in all time New Jersey History and a remarkable #3 ranking in the United States. The relay team was Ava Wilmot, Kylie Jacoutot, Olivia Petschauer and Lilly Shapiro. The Distance Medley (DMR) is a relay comprised of a 1200-400-800-1600.

These girls took it one step further at the Meet of Champions (MOC), which is a competition against all of New Jersey! On March 5th, Lilly Shapiro won both the 800 and 1600 at the MOC. She was the first girl in New Jersey history to win both events. Lily鈥檚 unbeatable winning times were 2:12.66 and 4:51.71. Also, our very own CNHS girls 4 x 400 ended their season on a high note with a time of 4:05.14. This “season best” time placed the girls in 7th place. These athletes should be so proud of their many accomplishments. The team will end their indoor season this March at Nationals.
