Remembering longtime Pleasant Grove HS wrestling coach Darold Henry
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah — Not very often does someone come along and influence the lives of countless people in a community. Coach Darold Henry was one of those people. Wrestling Hall-of-Famer and long time Pleasant Grove High School wrestling coach, Darold Henry, passed away the beginning of this year. His accolades and accomplishments are too numerous to mention, but he was beloved by everyone and his compassionate personality touched all he came in contact with. To remember his influence and impact, we鈥檝e compiled a few thoughts from members of our community to share with you.
鈥淗e considered everyone from all walks of life his friend. He truly loved and never judged. The students he taught were his heroes and he learned so much from them. He served someone every single day of his adult life, even if it was just picking up garbage from the school grounds and parking lots.聽 There is a scripture in 1聽John 4:19聽 that says: ‘We love him, because he first loved us.’ Through his recent passing and all the wonderful messages and conversations our family have had, we feel this scripture describes a feeling he created for himself by being the good person he was. So many have stated and demonstrated their love for him because he did indeed love them first.鈥 – Belva Henry
鈥淗e was all GO! He believed in all of us and made you believe in yourself.鈥 – Aaron Jones
鈥淚n high school, Coach Henry taught me to drive. He was such a genuinely nice human being who cared about you and your success! I鈥檓 grateful I got to learn from him.鈥 -Katelynn Neer
鈥淚n high school, I would stop Coach Henry in the halls and tell him dumb jokes. He would smack me in the arm, shake his head, and walk away. But he would always look back at me with the biggest smile on his face. He was tough, but also a softy. He was one of the good ones and would always go out of his way to see how his PGHS students were doing years after they graduated.鈥 – Brian Fullen
鈥淚 remember moments I had with him on the golf course, in the car as my driving instructor, and on the tennis court. He was a great teacher not only in sports, but in life.鈥 – Tysen Carter
鈥淐oach was one of the most influential figures in my life. I owe much of who I am to him. He taught me how to be a champion on the mat and a champion in life. He was a creator of champions.鈥 – Jode Allen
鈥淗e is a legend in so many different ways. For everything he accomplished in life, he never let it get to his head. He was an amazing man.鈥 – Austin Clark
鈥淗e was the coolest driver鈥檚 education teacher ever. He never made anyone nervous and was so patient.鈥 -Katie Glispy
