Briefly describe your main sport(s) and any other sports, including records, wins, titles, success, or any other information that would help you as an athlete.

Skylar Corbett: I play varsity basketball and varsity volleyball and I have played basketball since 4th grade.

What are your personal goals within your sports/ athletic dreams?

Corbett: I don’t have a specific goal, although I always want to be the best player I can be towards my team and my coaches. I don’t plan on playing on a basketball team in college, but I am looking forward to intramural sports including basketball.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Corbett: My biggest challenge in basketball is keeping my composure. My love for basketball can sometimes take over my thoughts. I have a hard time keeping my cool, but I look to my coaches and teammates for guidance. When I get angry on the court I know that every individual person on my team is there to support me, which calms me down.

What do you love about the sport?

Corbett: I love basketball because of the bonds made with my team and coaches. I have played with mostly the same people for so many years that I feel so comfortable playing with them and being around them. I also love the way basketball makes me feel. When I am on the court and everyone is cheering and being supportive it makes me feel so comfortable. When I am off the court I can cheer for my teammates who are playing to make them feel the same way. The bonds I have made throughout the many years I have played are bonds and friendships that I will never forget.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Corbett: I don’t have a pregame ritual specifically, although before each game I like to calm myself and get into the zone.

What do you like to do outside your sport?

Corbett: Outside of basketball I enjoy hanging out with my friends and playing volleyball. I also enjoying going into the city and watching movies.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Corbett: Being on a team has taught me more than I could imagine. Although the main lessons I have learned from being on a team is how to work with different individuals and patience. Every person that I have been on a team with plays the game differently. Sometimes it was hard to work with people depending on how they played but I had to work past our differences to make the team and myself better. 2

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Corbett: Well I make many mistakes every game, but I never let those mistakes drag me down. When I do make a mistake for the rest of the game I will work my hardest to make up for the mistake. I will work harder knowing that I cant make that mistake again.

Anything else?

Corbett: Each and every game I played at Weston was so much fun. The energy the team brings and the friendships that were made will always be remembered. I’m so proud of the team and so glad I had the opportunity to play on the team for so many years. I truly love basketball and I am very sad that my basketball career is ending. Although I am very excited to see how I can grow academically and as an athlete in the future.
