Meet Tahlequah HS basketball player Lydia McAlvain
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Lydia McAlvain is a 17 year old senior at Tahlequah High School. She has been playing basketball and volleyball for four years since this is the last year she intends on playing. She hopes to go all the way and make it to the state tournament.
Even though it can be a little challenging for her to keep up with her studies while she plays sports, she manages it by staying up at night to finish her assignments. When she is not playing sports, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
When asked about the best advice she’s ever been given, she said, “Keep going, even when times are tough.” Her pre-game ritual is a yellow Red Bull before each game. This contributes to the wins, which the feeling she gets after a win is her favorite aspect of the sport.
Lydia loves being part of a team because it has taught her to take responsibility for her actions. The biggest mistake she made in sports was turning the ball over. She overcame that by doing ball-handling drills.
