Q&A with Mamaroneck HS lacrosse captains Auker and Troy

MAMARONECK, N.Y. — As we get ready for the Spring Lacrosse season, we caught up with Girls Lacrosse Captain and Gettysburg College commit Dillon Troy and Boys Captain and Cornell commit Brady Auker. Both players have had a lacrosse stick in their hands since they were young and are appreciative of everything the Larchmont – Mamaroneck lacrosse community has given them. They are super excited for the coming season and can鈥檛 wait to get on the field to compete and play with their teammates. With both teams coming off very strong seasons, we caught up with them to hear their thoughts on the upcoming season and what inspired them.

What are you looking forward to most this season?

Dillon Troy: This season, I am most looking forward to building upon last season and hopefully getting another shot at winning the section. I think our team this year has the potential to go extremely far and based on the work being done in the offseason I think we will. Every person on our team this year is a skilled lacrosse player which I don鈥檛 think many teams can say. Our coaches have big goals for us, and I know we can meet them this season.

Brady Auker: This season I am looking forward to just competing and playing again with my teammates. We have a special culture on our team and have been working in the off-season. I can鈥檛 wait for the season to start. I鈥檓 so pumped to finally step on the field and see what our team can do.

What are your goals for the team this season?

Dillon Troy: Our goal for this season is to control what we can control and play as a team. If we can ensure that our fundamentals are 100%, we will be able to take down any team. Our ability to play as a cohesive team last year made us a team to reckon with. Our connection on and off the field has allowed us to be a top competitor.

Brady Auker: Our goal is to go all the way. Obviously, we need to win the section first. Last year did not end the way we wanted and we can鈥檛 wait to have the opportunity to chase that goal again. That being said, we need to take every game one at a time and treat it like our last. This is a very special group and I believe we can do something that has never been done before.

What is your favorite memory from your Mamaroneck lacrosse experience?

Dillon Troy:聽My favorite lacrosse memory from my Mamaroneck lacrosse career has to be beating North Rockland in double overtime. People doubted us all season and I feel that was the game that earned people鈥檚 respect. The feeling after we won was one I will never forget. Having Mamaroneck lacrosse alumni reach out and congratulate us made us realize that what we were doing was special.

Brady Auker:聽My favorite memory from my Mamaroneck lacrosse experience was last year when we had a Friday night game against Rye. It was under the lights and it was one of the first games that fans were allowed to come and watch. The environment was electric. I remember fans of all ages packing the bleachers and the hill around the field. We played a great game and ended up winning which felt pretty good. It was a special experience.

Who or what has had the greatest influence on your love for the game of lacrosse?

Dillon Troy:聽The person who had the greatest impact on my love for lacrosse has to be my mom. She knew from the moment she put a stick in my hand that this sport was going to be a huge part of my life, and oh boy was she right. I was infatuated with lacrosse and my mom was my biggest supporter. No words can express how thankful I am to both of my parents for supporting me and pushing me to be the best I could be.

Brady Auker: All of my coaches have had the greatest influence on my love for the game. From my years playing youth, to club, and of course playing for Coach Barnard and Bahr. The LMYL brought so many talented and passionate coaches together. Even at a young age I really saw how much they loved the game. It definitely rubbed off on me. I鈥檓 so thankful to have been able to play for them and this community.
