Q&A with Jack Weltha: Bloomington athlete and Truman State football commit
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A Q&A with Jack Weltha, a Bloomington High School senior wrestler, football player and Truman State football commit.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Jack Weltha: Outside of school, I like to workout and hang out with friends when I can. I also like to go hunting, ride four-wheelers and be outdoors.
When you close your eyes and dream about your future, what does that look like?
Weltha: When I think about my future, I think about how excited I am to attend Truman State in Kirksville, Mo., to play football and major in business.
Ask someone in your family to pick one word to describe you. Who did you pick and what word did they use?
Weltha: My brother, Austin, laughed and said 鈥渄efinitely energetic.鈥
As an athlete, what is a rule you live by?
Weltha: A rule I live by is giving your best effort all the time.
How would you describe your personality?
Weltha: I would describe myself as a very energetic, fun, outgoing person.
What is your favorite snack food?
Weltha: Cheez-its
What is your favorite pregame song to listen to?
Weltha: 鈥淓nter Sandman鈥 by Metallica.
Do you have a pregame ritual you always do?
Weltha: Try to relax and focus on the game plan.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Weltha: The best piece of advice I鈥檝e received is be 1 percent better each day.
Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.聽
Weltha: A mistake I made competing was when I missed an important tackle that led to the other team scoring a touchdown in a close game. I overcame that by moving on to the next play and not dwelling on the tackle I missed. I kept a short memory from the previous play to make the next play.
