Q&A with Cedarburg HS basketball player Reagan Pahl

CEDARBURG, Wis. — A Q&A with Reagan Pahl, a Cedarburg High School junior basketball player.

What do you love about your sport?

Reagan Pahl: I love being part of a team and the competition.

What has been your greatest accomplishment in your sport?

Pahl: In eighth grade, my school team qualified for Nationals at Valparaiso. After a heartbreaking loss in the semifinals, we came back and won our final game to take third place. It was an amazing way to end my middle school basketball experience.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Pahl: My long-term goal is to play basketball at the collegiate level.

What is the biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Pahl: The biggest challenges are staying focused and consistently working hard. I spend a lot of time outside of practice working out and working on my game in the gym. I find motivation from my teammates and my own desire to win.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Pahl: Last year during practice, I got tangled with a teammate, and I broke my foot. The injury was pretty serious and took many months to heal. I had to be creative during my recovery to stay in shape and work on my game. I bounced back from my injury by staying positive, even when there were setbacks, and by hard work at physical therapy and on my own in the gym.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Pahl: I do not really have a pregame ritual, but I like to get in the gym and get up shots before I head to the game. Another thing I always do is drink a coffee before I play.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Pahl: I have learned how to positively compete with my teammates to help all of us improve our games. I have also learned to keep the focus on the team and not myself.

What is the best piece of advice you have received from a coach or mentor?

Pahl: The best piece of advice I have received is that being great at something is worth all of the hard work it takes to get there.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

Pahl: I enjoy traveling and seeing new parts of the country and the world with my family, hanging out with friends and working out.
