Panther Creek varsity cheer earns two bids to nationals

CARY, N.C. — The Panther Creek varsity cheerleading team started their season the first week of August, and since then they haven’t slowed down with many successes over the last few months. They began their season attending cheerleading camp that acquired new skills and named six PCHS cheerleaders All-Americans.

The varsity team consists of five seniors, five juniors, three sophomores, and two freshmen. They are led by three senior captains — Kinsey Anger, Aarini Chauhan and Chelsea Wilson. Under talented new head coach Samantha Sopko and many new members to the squad this year, they all clicked together quickly and have had incredible chemistry on the mats.

The squad has been accomplishing new goals through tumbling and stunting every practice while they cheer for football games on Friday nights as the very talented Panther Creek varsity football team made it to the fourth聽round of the playoff season. They did this while also getting ready for their competition season that began on Nov. 13聽and preparing for basketball season that began on Nov. 22.

PCHS varsity cheer had a strong first competition finish at the UCA Triangle Regional at the Dorton Arena on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021. The team placed first in the small coed varsity division and additionally earned a bid to the prestigious UCA Cheerleading Nationals that is held at the Wide World of Sports in Disney World. This was Panther Creek鈥檚 first bid earned to attend the event. UCA Nationals is the most competitive national event for high school cheerleading.聽

The team continued their competition run on Saturday, Dec. 4聽at the Raleigh Convention Center as they competed for a state championship. We are proud to say that in the North Carolina State Cheerleading Championship, Panther Creek placed fourth out of 11 teams in the small coed division. They were the only team to hit a zero deduction routine and in addition, earned their second bid to UCA Nationals.

While our girls did not win the SWAC Conference Championship, I was honored to receive the 2021-22 SWAC Cheerleading Coach of the Year recognition,” Spoke said. “I could not have done it without the squad. I am so proud and honored to be their coach.鈥澛
