Bio:
I attended the University of North Carolina in Wilmington for my undergraduate degree and majored in History along with my Social Studies Licensure for Secondary Education. I graduated in May of 2017 and received the wonderful news of a job acceptance at South Brunswick High School in August of 2017!
South is where I began both my teaching and coaching career. I could not have asked for a better opportunity! I started coaching the Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team in my first semester of teaching in the Winter sports season of 2017. I also continued my coaching career into the Spring sports season and accepted the Assistant Track Coach Position as the Jump Coach for Outdoor Track & Field.
In the 2018-2019 school year I accepted the Women’s Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach position in the Fall Sports Season, continued with JV Women鈥檚 Basketball in the Winter, and in the Spring I was promoted to the Head Girls Outdoor Track & Field Coaching position.
In the 2019-2020 school year, my third year at South, I continued on with a second season of JV Girls Volleyball, a third season of JV Girls Basketball, and a third season in Track & Field.
In the 2020-2021 school year I was offered the Head Coach position for the Varsity Women’s Basketball Program. With the responsibility of two teams as the Head Coach in both Basketball and Track & Field, I made the tough decision to step down from the JV Volleyball position to direct my focus on Basketball & Track.
Now, in my fifth year at South Brunswick High School I have continued on as the Head Women鈥檚 Basketball Coach and the Head Women鈥檚 Outdoor Track & Field Coach.
Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff:
This year I have a tremendous amount of expertise and support from my coaching staff. I have five excellent assistant coaches who have years of coaching experience and knowledge. I could not ask for a better team. Those coaches include:
鈼� Jamie Perritt has been a part of the Women’s Basketball Program for 7 years. He has been a part of the successes of the program as it has continued to grow & strengthen over the years.
鈼� Gill Fitzugh is the Head Girls Middle School Basketball Coach, & has really helped us build a strong connection between the High School & Middle School teams building one big happy basketball family.
鈼� Mac Fitzugh started as Gill鈥檚 assistant coach at the middle school, helped build a travel basketball program in Brunswick County known as Power House, and is now the Head JV Coach/Assistant to Varsity at South High.
鈼� Karen Wehlage just started at South this year, but came from coaching Varsity Women’s basketball in Indiana.
鈼� John Duncan also just started coaching at South this year, but has both high school and college experience in coaching Women鈥檚 basketball.
2021-2022 Season Info:
This year we have eight seniors! This is the largest team of seniors we have had since I have been at South Brunswick. This group of seniors have been playing together since elementary school. We have had one of the most competitive seasons with this group of girls since I have started coaching at South. Currently we have three wins under our belts, including a rival victory against North Brunswick High School. We were down by three with five seconds to go & Senior Jaidyn Bryant took a three pointer and made it at the buzzer to tie the game and lead us into a victory in overtime! Our other two wins were against out of conference teams, East Duplin and East Columbus. We have three weeks of basketball left and are taking on our conference teams for the second round with confidence.
Our Conference includes:
New Hanover County teams: Ashley, Hoggard, Laney, New Hanover (NHHS)
Pender County team: Topsail
Brunswick County teams: South (SBHS), North (NBHS), & West (WBHS)

Top Scorer: Jo Mann with a total of 104 points so far this season
Top Offensive Rebounder: Jo Mann with a total of 25 offensive rebounds so far this season
Top Defensive Rebounder: Jo Mann with a total of 55 defensive rebounds so far this season
Top Assists & Steals: Logan Fitzhugh with a total of 18 assists & 12 steals so far this season
Jo Mann also has 12 steals so far this season
Top Deflections: Brooke Moore with a total of 14 total deflections so far this season
