Germantown girls volleyball standouts receive all-state honors
GERMANTOWN, Wis. — 聽Junior Lily Wagner made first team all-state and senior Maddie Connor made honorable mention. Both girls served in the role of captain and helped lead the team to an impressive 29-7 record in a season where they ended as Greater Metro Conference champions. The girls ended up falling to Brookfield Central in sectionals, but the positive momentum of the program generated lots of excitement for volleyball fans.
Coach Amy Wagner finished her fourth season as head coach and shared her pride in the accomplishments of her players.聽
鈥淲e鈥檝e been on an upward trajectory,” Coach Wagner said. “Last year we finished second in conference but this is the first time since I took over we鈥檝e been regional champs.”
Lily, who will be returning next year as senior and captain, played as an outside hitter and consistently brought explosive energy to the court. She has committed to play NCAA Division I volleyball at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.聽
鈥淪he鈥檚 a competitor,” Coach Wagner said. “She will go after anything and really leads by the way she plays. Her skills set her apart, but she鈥檚 also a very smart player and makes smart decisions when attacking.”
Maddie, who has signed to play with Viterbo University In La Crosse this the fall, has been on varsity since she was a freshman and excels in her role as setter.聽
鈥淪he made every ball hittable so that we could get a kill and that consistency was such a huge improvement from the year before,” Coach Wagner said. “She is not always the most vocal player, but she will work her butt off and she doesn鈥檛 get flustered. She is a confident and calming presence on the court whether we鈥檙e up by two down by two. I鈥檓 so proud of her and her tremendous growth.”
Lily and Maddie were also selected to the Greater Metro All Conference first team and teammates Ellie Lopata and Madelyn Weyda, both seniors, were honored as second team selections.聽
