Frenship boys basketball looks to repeat championship run
LOBBOCK, Texas — Frenship varsity boys basketball continues to leave its mark on school history by breaking records and setting the bar high. After winning the District 2-6A championship last season for the first time since joining the division, the Tigers have their sights set on continuing clinching that top spot.
For the 2021-2022 season, the Tigers are returning seven key lettermen from last year鈥檚 championship team. Returning players include senior Tajavis Miller, District 2-6A Newcomer of the Year for 2020-21, senior Tracy Godfrey, District 2-6A Defensive Player of the Year for 2020-21, junior Tate Beeles, 1st Team All-District for 2020-21, senior Lincon Parrott, 2nd Team All-District for 2020-21, junior Jalen Braziel, senior Jake Armstrong, and senior Corbin Gandy.
Frenship head boys basketball coach and 2020-21 District 2-6A Coach of Year, Paul Page, said he is excited to see how his team does this season. He is confident that another district championship and a deep playoff run are possible for his team of leaders.
鈥淲e鈥檙e bringing very good core players from last season鈥檚 district championship team and will be able to lean on them and their experience to help try to put us in that same position this season,鈥� Page said. 鈥淲ith being able to play tournaments again this year, we feel like our pre-district schedule will be very competitive and help us establish our team identity earlier.鈥�
Page said this year his team鈥檚 motto is 鈥�#RUNitback,鈥� something that he is hoping his team can take ownership of.
鈥淲e want to strive for another district championship this year by doing what we do which is run and play fast, which is what 鈥�#RUNitback鈥� is all about,鈥� Page said.
Page has been in the coaching game for over 20 years and this season begins his eighth year as a Tiger. Page recently celebrated his 400th career win in early Dec. 2021.
