MTSU guard Teafale Lenard Jr. earns another C-USA Freshman of the Week Award

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (BVM) – Teafale Lenard Jr. has earned his stripes as a member of the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders men鈥檚 basketball team, and he continues to impress within Conference USA.

Teafale was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week for his role in the Blue Raiders鈥 wins over Florida Atlantic and FIU over the past week. This is the second time he has earned this honor in his freshman campaign. He averaged five points, three rebounds, two blocks, and two steals while playing 16 minutes. He also shot 66.7% from the floor and threw down some highlight reel dunks, earning a top spot on SportsCenter.

Before earning these honors and proving why he was a big addition to the Blue Raider family, Teafale began his journey in Snyder, Texas. Born on July 21, 2002 to Ashley Lenard and Teafale Lenard Sr., Teafale made a name for himself at Snyder High School. Under Coach Lee Scott, he averaged 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists per game as a senior.

Teafale also earned District 5-4A MVP honors while being named honorable mention all-district and TABC all-conference defensive player of the year. Rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 111 ranked player in the nation, Teafale chose to sign with Blue Raiders and become the second highest ranked high school prospect in the class to sign in the C-USA.

MTSU head coach Nick McDevitt was thrilled to add another versatile player to his team.聽

鈥淲e鈥檙e very excited about Teafale to our program,鈥 He has tremendous size and length for a backcourt player and he impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He has a very bright future!鈥

It didn鈥檛 take Lenard long to make an impact as a Blue Raider. In November, he earned his first Conference USA Freshman of the Week. During that week, he put up 11 points, four rebounds, and two blocks while playing 29 minutes. He equaled his career best with eight points against Stephen F. Austin while igniting the team with his energizing pair of dunks. He became the first Blue Raider to receive the honor since Tyson Jackson on December 16, 2019.

For the current season, he is averaging seven points, three rebounds, and one steal per game. Off the court, Teafale spends time with his two brothers, Leland and Keshaun. , he is undecided on a major and his favorite athlete is none other than Kobe Bryant. His role model is his mother

Over the season, head coach Nick McDevitt has had some positive things to say about Teafale. 鈥(Teafale) makes some big momentum plays, he鈥檚 had some highlight reel plays this season,鈥 . 鈥淵ou could see it. The technical didn鈥檛 pull the energy out of our fans or out of our team.鈥
