Rookie pitcher with 21U Elmwood Giants, Tyler Smith, named Manitoba鈥檚 junior baseball POTY

WINNIPEG, Manitoba —This 19-year-old has been a resident of St. Andrews since 2007, and has played both hockey and baseball within the community since the very beginning. Tyler is a skilled athlete, and has won numerous awards in many of the years he鈥檚 played both sports.

Most recently, he was named Baseball Manitoba鈥檚 Junior Player of the Year. For the 2021 season, Tyler was a rookie member of the 21U Elmwood Giants, was their ace pitcher and was the most dominant pitcher in the league. His numbers this season were stellar.

Throughout the season, Tyler showed incredible leadership skills and determination. He pitched 5 complete games, with 1 complete game shutout. He鈥檚 accepted a scholarship to play baseball, and is currently studying Transportation Technician Technology at Williston State College in Williston, North Dakota. A leader on and off the field, Tyler has gone from Minor AAA stand out in Manitoba, to Manitoba Junior聽Baseball聽League All Star, to College Athlete.

Besides the above, Tyler was named Manitoba High聽Schools聽Athletic Association MVP in the 2019 Baseball Provincial Championships in grades 11 and 12 (2020). Tyler was Varsity Athlete of the Year for Garden City Collegiate, all while playing hockey, baseball and lacrosse.
