Carroll basketball’s Katie Rohner shows no signs of sophomore slump
WAUKESHA, Wis. — Sophomore Katie Rohner continues to dominate and lead her program in scoring despite only being an underclassman.
Katie Rohner, a sophomore guard from Waterford, Wisconsin, is currently showcasing why her freshman season was not just a fluke. This year, she leads her team, the Carroll Pioneers, in scoring with 12.5 points per game and she currently possesses a nearly flawless record from the free-throw line. Rohner has sunk 25 of the 27 free throws she has been allotted. She also sits in 9th place in the CCIW conference in terms of overall scoring.
Each night, Rohner is contributing to the Pioneers’ overall success. She will do whatever it takes to not only be the star athlete, but also to make sure her team goes home with the victory. She more often than not will lead her team with her offensive skill, but she does not hesitate to get the job done in different categories. Against #18 Wheaton, Rohner was able to help out snagging a team-high five rebounds on the night. Rohner also is second on her team in both assists and steals; furthering the narrative of her ability to be a team player.
Last year, she broke out on the scene starting in 6 games and playing in 13 total. She finished the season second in terms of overall scoring on the Pioneers. Rohner averaged 10.7 points per game and 2.4 assists per game. Some might have thought it was a fluke for a freshman to come out playing like she’s been through this the league before, but since the opening night of this season, Rohner has proved she’s here to stay and compete.
During high school, Rohner was just as successful. She was named an all-conference selection in all four years, two-time player of the year in her conference, and even received the honors of player of the year in her county four times as well. She majors in applied physics and pre-engineering at Carroll, and she chose this program for the love of her team. Her ability to be a team player demonstrates that very notion.
The Pioneers are looking to snap a 3 game losing streak after opening the season winning 5 in a row. All three of those losses came inside of conference play. They tip off next at Elmhurst University for their last conference matchup of the year on Saturday at 2 p.m. CST.
