The evolving greatness of Utah State Aggies’ Kaylin Randhawa

LOGAN, Utah — When analyzing a player, there’s a tendency to look at what they’ve accomplished now. Somehow the immediate results in the present define your legacy for the future. While it is common practice to examine what has been achieved now, there is a need to take a moment and reflect on how that particular athlete achieved their current status, not to diminish their accomplishments but to further elevate their greatness in the now. To give them the full measure of their rightful place in the summit of collegiate fame. At Utah State, Kaylin Randhawa has certainly proven that her evolution has paved her path towards greatness.

The 6-foot-2 guard is in her senior year and is absolutely dominating the competition. She’s having a phenomenal start to the season where she’s started in all nine games so far this season and is clocking in the most minutes by averaging 31.0 minutes per game. That’s six minutes more than the next person in line.

During her time, she’s comfortably leading the team in scoring by averaging 15.8 points per game. To put things into perspective, there are only two other team members who are averaging more than 10 points per game and still, Randhawa is scoring 5.5 more points than the second highest scorer on this Aggies team. She’s the dominate scorer on the team and has been given a license by head coach, Kayla Ard, to keep on shooting.

Randhawa has taken 103 shots which is the most on the team by 26. She’s averaging a healthy field goal percentage of 39.8% and is shooting her free throws extremely well where she’s averaging 86.0% from the charity stripe. Before her transfer from Pacific, Randhawa wasn’t known to be a prolific scorer.

As a junior at Pacific, she ranked fourth in the squad with 7.8 points per game but still made enough free throws to earn a good percentage of 81.5%. As you can tell, in one year Randhawa took a giant leap. Her scoring number has doubled and her free throw percentage has improved. She went from being a fringe shooter to the most reliable one on the team. But her talents don’t end with her scoring ability.

Randhawa is also an excellent defender. This season with the Aggies she’s leading the team in steals with 20 from nine games. That’s six steals more than the next best stealer on the team and there are only two, besides Randhawa, who have reached double figures in that category.

It’s clear that Randhawa has taken a massive step towards greatness with this Utah State Aggies team. Her teammates depend on her to provide the scoring and to be influential on the defensive side of the ball. Her evolution is impressive and merits the attention she should receive from the committees who distribute the individual accolades. Randhawa is the perfect example for those athletes who are despondent about their game that they can still achieve greatness with persistent hard work and commitment.
