Logan Collyer providing valuable minutes for Cameron University
LAWTON, Okla. — Logan Collyer鈥檚 role on the Cameron University Aggies has been reduced this year, however, she is still providing valuable minutes off the bench.
Collyer grew up in Harrah, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, and attended Harrah High School. She played basketball and softball at Harrah High School and lettered in both sports. She averaged ten points per game in her senior year and helped lead her team to a state championship. Collyer also performed well in the classroom at Harrah High School and was on the principal鈥檚 honor roll her junior and senior years.
Collyer went to Independence Community College after high school and played on their basketball team. You may have heard of Independence Community College from the hit Netflix show, Last Chance U. Collyer did not play much in her freshman season at Independence. She played in 31 games (with four starts) but only averaged 4.5 minutes per game. She finished that season averaging 1.3 points per game.
Collyer started playing a lot more in her sophomore season. She started 22 of 28 games and averaged 15.4 minutes per game. Her numbers improved a little, and she averaged 3.9 points per game.
After Collyer鈥檚 two years at Independence Community College, she returned to her home state and started playing basketball at NCAA Division II Cameron University. Her impact on the court was immediate, and she became a starter soon into her first season at Cameron.
The 5-foot-5 guard became known for her defensive ability. She averaged almost one steal per game and made life difficult for the player she was guarding. Collyer also did a little bit of everything else. She averaged 2.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Her performance was recognized that year and she was named the Women鈥檚 Basketball Aggie of the Year.
Unfortunately, Collyer鈥檚 (first) senior season was shortened because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Collyer improved her game that year. Her defense improved and she averaged 1.7 steals per game. Her offense also improved, and she averaged 4.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Collyer鈥檚 best game of the season came in the LSC quarterfinal. She did a lot of everything and scored 15 points with six rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Collyer鈥檚 role has been reduced this year. She has only started one game and is playing 18 minutes per game. She is averaging 3.1 points and 1.2 steals per game through the first nine games of the season. If I were a betting man, I would bet that Collyer鈥檚 playing time will increase as the season goes on.
